The Old Bridge on the Edron (Il Ponte Vecchio sull'Edron)
The Old Bridge on the Edron: 400 meters above sea level.
To reach the Bridge:
Poggio take the road to the station, a few meters before you reach it, on the left take the path marked red/white of CAI, a few meters.
On the right a mestaina (maestaina) a time stop of le rogazioni The bridge of medieval origin, known as the Ponte Vecchio, Edron crosses the creek, just before it flows into the river Serchio. This is located within an area of great historical and archaeological value and rich in ancient roads and ruins of ancient fortified castles. The presence of huge and beautiful rocky outcrops diabase and the confluence of the Edron valley with the Serchio valley determined for this portion of the Garfagnana, the vocation of strategic territory for transit and for the defense.
The bridge collapsed around and rebuilt the nineties thanks to an intervention of the Regional Park of the Apuan Alps ("Parco Regionale delle Alpi Apuane"), is a beautiful example of a pedestrian crossing in stone, with a unique shape due to the gradient of the two banks linked: the high-end, formed by the outcrop of diabase caper and low, formed by alluvial deposits of the stream.
