The Garfagnana

Garfagnana is the "High" part of the Serchio Valley to the northern limit of the Region of Tuscany,
rich in history and tradition, very close to important historical towns such as Lucca, Pisa and Florence.
This valley, created by the Serchio River and its affluents, is a treasure chest full of natural treasures, surrounded by the chain of the Apuan Alps and the Appennino Tosco - Emiliano. -
By the contrast between these two environments, not only morphologically, but also socially and traditionally different,

La Via Vandelli.
Between 1739 and 1752 the Duke of Modena Francesco III built by the "mathematical" Domenico Vandelli a road to connect Modena Massa, through the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
Marriage Cybo-d'Este, established in March 1738 and celebrated in April 1741 for the dynastic interests of the Este family in Modena providing an outlet to the sea, was the reason for this route of communication with Tuscany.

Hermitage of Saint Viviano
The hermitage of Saint Viviano or Viano is a charming building dug deep into the rock overlooking the valley of Arnetola place of life and prayer of the hermit Viviano.
The small shrine dedicated to Saint Viviano (or Viano) represents a unique abri-chapel under the rock in the apuan area. Located a short distance from Campocatino, dominates the Pit of the Mont Tambura and the Valley of Arnetola.

Giovanni Pascoli
Giovanni Pascoli was born in San Mauro di Romagna on December 31 1855, fourth son of Caterina Vincenzi Alloccatelli and Ruggero Pascoli, administrator of the estate of the principles Torlonia, where the family moved in 1862.

Small thermal lake of Prà di Lama
Apparently that is a small lake where ducks swim some quiet.
The reality is a lake of thermal origin. This we feel is touching the water that comes out of the pipe that feeds.
The lake is fed by several springs, some of which are underwater.
Usually no specific abnormalities, but the situation is far from stable.

Orecchiella's Park
The Orecchiella's Park, is located on the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, on the other side of the Garfagnana, on a large limestone plateau dominated by the Pania of Corfino.
This is an area protected by the State Forestry Corps composed of impressive forests of beech, chestnut and fir trees, with, again today, hosted and protected numerous species of wild animals, as the Apennine wolf, deer, roe deer, mouflon and wild boar, grouse and black bears. The skies are dominated by raptors such as hawks and eagles.

This definition, which is the most common, says all that is Eco-museum of the Upper Garfagnana.
